Wow!
Today, I experienced was it is to be discriminated against! Wow.
You remember our friend - Mary, the 15 year old girl who dropped out of school somr5years ago, since she had her legs, paralysed? Hmmm. Okay, so today, we agreed to meet with a bigger friend, who has an NGO for people living with disabilities. The organisation sells Mobility Aid Appliances, too.
And, so our meeting point was at KFC, Shoperite, Ikeja! We had a taxi picked up.
When we arrived at the spot, someone suggested we pre-inform the management that we are bringing in a 'cripple girl'. I asked, 'but, why'? So that they won't shut us out. Really? They can do that? That would be so wrong, I said.
To cut story so short.
We preinformed the door guard.
He said, yes, we can bring her in.
Then, we moved back to the taxi to helpary out of the car...she was lifted by two persons.
The moment we got to the door of KFC.
The 2 doors were SHUT against us!
The guard waved his hands that NO, You can't come in with her!!!
Aaah, and, there we were dumbfounded.
Asking when had it been illegal for persons with disability to come into a confectionery? Haba. Na so I vex small oo, walked closer, opened the door and asked to speak with the management...while I asked that Mary be brought in... I had to 'lecture' them a bit on what discrimination against PLWD means. We need to speak out, more.
