The Transformed Health Centre

When we lost one of our pupils last year, it was a difficult thing to bear. Till date, the pain still lingers.

She was only 7years and, I could remember that morning she was brought to my office, she complained of headache. We asked if she had eaten, she answered 'No'. So, we got her some meal. She ate and slept in my office, afterwards. No class for that day. No class. Sorry.

That day, she was the last pupil to leave school for home as mama came pretty late to pick her. Mary was off school for some days. To cut the story short. Little Mary died some two weeks, thereafter.

When a child is sick, we don't just send them home anymore, as we aren't sure of how much medical care they would be given, due to lack in the home. So we ensure we follow through. We get the children into the nearest private clinic, where laboratory tests are conducted, and necessary drugs prescribed. Often times we have had the children admitted for days. We would wait patiently, praying along, bearing all of the financial implications. πŸ™πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌ

This year, just a few meters away from this centre in the photograph attached, a mother to one of our pupils died also.. because she couldn't access quality health care in good time. Her blood pressure was low etc she never knew it till we sent a medical practitioner to check on her, four days before her demise. We learnt that she had been ill for some days with no funding... So, we had to send a medical personnel to her home after the son informed us of her predicament in school. It was so much to bear for our little man when he heard of his mum's passing. We all cried. πŸ™πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌ

So you can imagine our joy when we received such magnanimous support from the Embassy of Japan to renovate an abandoned health facility in the community. No you may not understand it all. Yoruba would say, 'tiwa ye wa'. 😊😊

While we don't pray to fall ill anytime soon, however, the good thing is that access to quality health care is guaranteed. Special thanks to the Embassy of Japan in Nigeria and to everyone who got our back. πŸ™πŸΌ Thank you to Mrs. Adesola Ayo-aderele for all of her efforts in ensuring that the situation report of the community was made public in the media #PUNCH. Thank you, Ma'am Joke Kujenya for your unfeigned support too, using the media, #TheNation πŸ™πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌ Adupe Gan.
