The US Consulate has said using digital tools for teaching will help inspire learning. A statement made available by a non-governmental organisation, Street to School, said it collaborated with the US consulate and other stakeholders on a digital teaching apps workshop for the teachers in Lagos State. The workshop, which was also in commemoration of World Teachers Day, was titled, ‘Apps for teaching and learning workshop.’ In her address, Deputy Public Affairs Officer of the US Consulate, Amanda Roach-Brown, explained that in recognition of the importance of technology in education, the Consul-General in Lagos would always remain committed to supporting education and empowering educators. “I encourage you all to approach this training with an open mind, embrace the possibilities that technology offers and leverage the support and resources available. “Together, we will explore the world of arts and digital tools and learn how they can be used in the classroom to inspire the next generation.” Founder, Street-to-School Initiative, Oluwatosin Olowoyeye-Taiwo, revealed that it partnered with the US Consulate towards teachers’ capacity building in 2021, saying 300 teachers were trained across the South-West states of the federation, in various forms of digital skills and new teaching methodologies. “We are trying to ensure that teachers, especially others from rural communities are well equipped so that they can not only necessarily compete with their counterparts in the Western world, but at least they should be able to boast of acquiring relevant 21st-century skills.” Director, The American Place of the US Consulate in Lagos, Samuel Eyitayo, was the resource person for the workshop. Director General, Public Service Staff Development Centre, Magodo, Adekunmilola Adio-Moses, stated that celebrating teachers was just another way to show that they were poised to partner for progress with all the key sectors in the state.
